Turning the above pillars and objectives into reality requires clear and actionable mechanisms. NEMSU will institute the following structures, processes, and initiatives to implement the Sustainability Policy effectively. These mechanisms ensure that the strategy is not just aspirational but executable, with roles and timelines for tangible action.
NEMSU shall integrate sustainability governance into its organizational structure. A high-level Sustainability Council which shall compose of the following officials to oversee the rollout of this policy such as setting annual priorities, coordinating across departments and campuses, and ensuring top-level accountability. A Sustainability Evidence Unit will be created under the Sustainability Council to consolidate SDG data, validate outcomes with external experts, and prepare comprehensive reports for THE Impact Rankings and national accreditation. Additionally, dedicated SDG Focal Persons or sub-committees may be appointed for each strategic pillar or for each SDG of focus, to champion and monitor specific initiatives. NEMSU’s leadership commits to a similar “whole-of-university” approach:
NEMSU’s approach to implementation is multi-pronged – establish leadership and accountability, infuse sustainability into existing systems, roll out targeted green projects, collaborate widely for support, build human capacity, and track progress diligently. By following these mechanisms, the lofty goals of the strategic pillars become actionable steps that the University community can take together. The guiding ethos is one of “walking the talk”: every part of NEMSU’s operations and academia should reflect the sustainability values we profess, thereby making the policy a living, breathing reality on campus and in our communities.
