17.2.1. Relationships with Regional NGOs and Government for SDG Policy

North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and twenty-two institutional stakeholders, formalized a Memorandum of Agreement for the preservation and sustainable management of the Bislig River Watershed. This initiative reflects NEMSU’s strategic role in contributing to evidence-based policymaking and multi-sectoral governance, thereby reinforcing regional commitments to environmental conservation and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
San Miguel, Surigao del Sur - April 30, 2024
North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU)–San Miguel Campus actively engaged in the ‘Retooled Community Service Program (RCSP) Serbisyo Caravan’ spearheaded by the DILG and LGU Cagwait on April 29–30, 2024, in Barangays Bacolod and Bitaugan East, Cagwait. Represented by Assistant Campus Director Dr. Marlon M. Garrigues, Administrative Officer III Mr. Glenn C. Biacolo, and Agriculture Instructor Mr. Romnick Guillermo, the campus showcased its academic programs and scholarship opportunities in Agriculture, Forestry, and Technology and Livelihood Education. The team also extended free services such as pest and disease control consultations, distribution of Trichoderma sp. packs, and lectures on stingless bee culture—underscoring NEMSU’s commitment to knowledge sharing, community engagement, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through cross-sectoral collaboration.

Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), China - September 18 to 30, 2024
The Department of Fisheries, Marine, and Environmental Sciences (DFiMES) extends its congratulations to Mr. Jaynos R. Cortes, a faculty member of the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries program, for successfully completing the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗕𝗥𝗜) 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺. This training program was held from September 18 to 30, 2024, at Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), China.
The training coincided with the 3rd International Symposium on Integrated Agriculture and Aquaculture (IAA) and Water Resources Management (IWRM), as well as the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Rice-Fish Training Program. These events gathered global leaders and practitioners to discuss innovations in agriculture, aquaculture, and water management.
Hosted jointly by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and SHOU, the symposium provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge on integrated agriculture and aquaculture practices that enhance water resource management, in alignment with FAO’s global initiatives. The Lancang-Mekong Rice-Fish Training Program, a key initiative of SHOU’s Center for Ecological Aquaculture (CEA), focused on rice-fish farming, biosecurity, and prawn co-culture techniques in Southeast Asia.
Mr. Cortes’s participation, which was partially funded by NEMSU-Lianga Campus through the initiative of Dr. Fabio C. Ruaza, Jr., and with the approval of NEMSU-Lianga Campus Director, Mdm. Catherine F. Salomon, and University President, Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon, highlights the university's commitment to international collaboration and academic excellence in fisheries education and research.
Maria Luisa Hotel, Tandag City - September 17, 2024
The 5th International Conference on Methodological Advances in Research (ICMAR) 2024 commenced on September 17, 2024, at Villa Maria Luisa Hotel, Tandag City. Hosted by North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) in collaboration with the Visayas Mindanao Consortium, the event brought together researchers, scholars, and experts from across the globe to exchange knowledge and foster international collaboration. Anchored on the theme, “From Insight to Action: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through Methodological Advances in Research,” the conference emphasizes bridging research and practical applications for global sustainability. Running from September 17 to 20, 2024, the program features keynote addresses, discussions, and research presentations that highlight innovative methodologies for advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By spearheading this global platform, NEMSU reinforces its commitment to excellence in research, collaboration, and the promotion of SDG best practices.

North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU)–San Miguel Campus held a convergence meeting with the Pamulaan Center for Indigenous Peoples Education to strengthen collaboration in advancing inclusive and culture-based education. The engagement provided a platform to explore partnerships that promote the empowerment of indigenous communities through sustainable academic programs, research, and community initiatives. This collaboration underscores NEMSU’s commitment to working with non-government organizations (NGOs) to uphold the rights of indigenous peoples and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
