5.3.2. Policy for Women Applications and Entry
At North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), the commitment to gender equality is embedded in key policies that promote the fair and equal treatment of women in both recruitment and academic environments. The Recruitment, Selection, and Placement Plan upholds the principle of Equal Employment Opportunity, which ensures that all applicants, regardless of gender, are given equal consideration during the recruitment process. This principle can be found on page 6 of the plan, specifically under the section outlining Equal Employment Opportunity.
Additionally, the Student Handbook provides detailed admission policies in Article 5 on page 5, which govern the application and acceptance process for students, ensuring that women have equal access to educational opportunities at NEMSU. These policies are designed to promote fairness and inclusivity in the student selection process.
5.3.3. Women’s Access Schemes
North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) actively promotes women’s access schemes through a variety of initiatives that support their personal and professional growth. The university annually celebrates National Women’s Month with activities designed to empower women, such as financial literacy programs. In addition, NEMSU conducts seminars for students and staff, including the Bawal Bastos Law Seminar, to raise awareness on gender rights and protections.
To further strengthen opportunities, the university permits faculty members to take study leave in pursuit of scholarships, ensuring that women have equal access to advanced education and training. In 2024, NEMSU also organized a significant capacity-building initiative titled “Empowering Educators for Inclusive Excellence: Building Gender-Responsive Teams through a Capacity-Building Workshop and Year-End Assessment” for the College of Teacher Education (CTE) faculty and staff, held in Bukidnon. These efforts reflect NEMSU’s commitment to fostering inclusive excellence and advancing women’s empowerment across its academic community.
5.3.4. Women’s Application in Underrepresented Subjects
In an effort to encourage women to participate in underrepresented subjects, NEMSU Bislig Campus implemented Project WELDT: Women Empowerment through Livelihood and Digital Training. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Women’s Organization of Barangay Kahayag, Bislig City, and NEMSU Bislig. Conducted from May to December 2024 at the campus Computer Laboratory, the project aimed to equip women in the community with digital literacy skills and livelihood opportunities. A total of 30 participants attended weekend training sessions, enhancing their knowledge and capabilities, and fostering greater inclusion of women in fields where they are traditionally underrepresented.
