INDICATOR 6.4.
6.4.1. Water Reuse Policy
In pursuit of environmental sustainability and responsible water management, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) has implemented a comprehensive Water Reuse Policy, as outlined in Memorandum No. 4-08-2024 from the Office of the President. This policy encourages all campuses, offices, and facilities to maximize the collection and reuse of rainwater through catchment systems, storage facilities, and other suitable technologies. The harvested water is prioritized for non-potable purposes, including irrigation, cleaning, restroom flushing, and other utility needs, reducing reliance on freshwater sources while promoting sustainable practices.
6.4.2. Water Reuse Measurement
NEMSU actively monitors and records its annual water reuse volume through established water catchment systems located across its campuses. These systems collect and store rainwater, which is then reused for landscape irrigation, cleaning, and sanitation purposes. The collected data provides a quantifiable measure of the university’s water conservation performance, aligning with its Sustainability Policy under Sustainable Campus Operations.
This initiative demonstrates NEMSU’s commitment to responsible water management and supports Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation by promoting efficient resource utilization, reducing dependence on potable water for non-essential activities, and minimizing environmental impact.
