INDICATOR 7.2.
INDICATOR 7.2.
7.2.1. Energy-Efficient Renovation and Building
As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) ensures that all new buildings and renovations adhere to energy efficiency standards. This is formalized in the NEMSU Land Use and Development Plan (LUDIP) FY2023-2032, which has been approved by the Board of Regents. The LUDIP outlines the university’s approach to green building initiatives, emphasizing energy conservation and sustainable resource management in all construction and renovation projects.
These initiatives are aligned with the principles of green architecture, ensuring that every building project is designed to minimize energy consumption, reduce carbon emissions, and integrate eco-friendly technologies.
7.2.2. Upgrade Buildings to Higher Energy Efficiency
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) is actively working to upgrade existing buildings to higher energy efficiency. This initiative is outlined in the Land Use and Development Plan (LUDIP) FY2023-2032, which guides the university’s long-term goals for infrastructure development, ensuring that all campus buildings meet modern energy-efficient standards.
To support this effort, the Infrastructure Team from NEMSU campuses, along with PMU, General Services, SAO Admin, and Internal Audit Units, recently enhanced their skills in DPWH Standard Construction Estimates during a 3-day workshop. This training, which began today, focused on promoting best practices in cost estimation, project management, and compliance for sustainable infrastructure development. It aims to equip university staff with the necessary tools to efficiently implement energy-efficient upgrades across campus buildings, ensuring that future renovations and new projects adhere to the highest sustainability standards.
7.2.3. Carbon Reduction and Emission Reduction Process
In support of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon footprint reduction, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) has implemented a “No Motor Vehicle Day” observed every first Wednesday of the month across all campuses. As mandated by Memorandum No. 2-016-2024, the initiative encourages employees, students, and stakeholders to refrain from using motorized vehicles within the university premises, except for emergency and service vehicles. This eco-friendly measure aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, improve air quality, and lower noise pollution, while promoting healthier lifestyles through walking, cycling, and other sustainable modes of transport.
7.2.4. Plan to Reduce Energy Consumption
As part of its commitment to sustainability, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) has enacted an energy conservation policy aligned with Memorandum No. 08-003, s. 2024, from the Office of the University President. This directive aims to enhance the efficient use of resources, minimize energy consumption, and contribute to the financial sustainability of the university.
To support this goal, air-conditioning units in well-ventilated offices should be set to operate between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, including during lunch breaks, to avoid unnecessary energy usage. Additionally, it is mandatory for all members of the NEMSU community to ensure that unused lights and equipment are turned off to further reduce energy wastage.
7.2.5. Energy Wastage Identification
North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), through its Sustainability Policy, has institutionalized mechanisms to identify and address areas of energy wastage across its campuses. Under the Sustainable Campus Operations (p.4) pillar, the policy explicitly highlights the objective of achieving efficient use of energy and transitioning to clean energy sources. This includes the implementation of energy-saving technologies, renewable energy installations, and green building standards to ensure that energy consumption is monitored, reduced, and optimized
7.2.6. Divestment Policy
