With a Php 95 million investment, the six-story medical building (Phase 1) will serve as a hub for premier healthcare education. The facility is designed to foster the development of skilled healthcare practitioners who will cater to the needs of the local community, providing accessible medical education to students from diverse backgrounds.
A key aspect of this initiative is NEMSU’s partnership with Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC), which will serve as the base hospital for the program. This collaboration will provide medical students with essential hands-on experience in real-world healthcare settings. The partnership underscores NEMSU's commitment to producing top-notch healthcare professionals trained to serve the Surigaonon community.

On July 17, 2024, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), through its Project CHEAP (Community Health Education and Assistance Program), conducted a symposium on Adolescent Health and Development at Barangay San Agustin. This extension activity aimed to raise awareness about the unique health challenges faced by adolescents and to provide essential health education tailored to their needs.
The symposium focused on fostering a better understanding of adolescence as a critical stage in health development, addressing topics such as mental health, nutrition, sexual health, and the importance of physical activity. It served as a platform for both students and community members to engage in open discussions, learning from health experts and gaining practical advice on how to navigate health challenges during this developmental phase.
Project CHEAP’s initiative reflects NEMSU's continued commitment to improving community well-being, emphasizing the importance of early health education in ensuring the long-term health and success of the younger generation.

North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) hosted a comprehensive health symposium in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, addressing critical issues affecting youth today. The symposium focused on raising awareness about HIV, preventing teenage pregnancy, and promoting mental health among students. Through expert talks and open forums, participants were provided with vital information on these pressing issues, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
In addition to the educational sessions, the event offered free HIV testing, ensuring that students had access to essential health services. The symposium aimed not only to inform but also to empower students to take control of their health, providing a safe space for discussions and breaking the stigma surrounding sensitive topics like HIV and mental health.

The Peer Facilitators’ Circle of North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU)-Guidance Office hosted the highly anticipated Mental Health Fair 2024 at the university gymnasium.
A central highlight of the event was the “7S Against Stress,” a collection of simple self-care strategies to help students combat stress and maintain their mental well-being during their academic journey. The seven strategies included stretching, listening to music, engaging in mindfulness exercises, participating in energizing workouts like Zumba, spreading positivity through smiles, taking restorative naps (siestas), and engaging in meaningful social interactions.
Anchored by the principle “We listen, we care, BECAUSE YOU MATTER,” this event reflected NEMSU’s dedication to mental health advocacy and the well-being of its students, creating a campus culture that values self-care and mutual support.
3.3.6. Smoke-Free Policy
In support of health, safety, and environmental sustainability, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) has established a 100% Smoke-Free Campus Policy across all its campuses. As stipulated in Memorandum No. 8-004-2024 from the Office of the University President, this policy aligns with Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 17, s. 2009, CHED Memorandum Order No. 6, s. 2021, and relevant city ordinances.

The administration, faculty, and staff of North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) – Cantilan Campus gathered for a revitalizing Wellness Wednesday event, engaging in a Zumba activity from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the Center for Culture and the Arts. This initiative, part of the university's ongoing commitment to promoting mental and physical well-being, provided an opportunity for the campus community to come together, relieve stress, and focus on self-care.
The Zumba session, designed to be a fun and energizing experience, allowed participants to unwind after a busy week, encouraging physical activity as an effective way to manage stress and improve overall wellness. By integrating this activity into the weekly routine, NEMSU continues to prioritize the mental and physical health of its staff, fostering a supportive environment that encourages both individual and collective well-being.
